There are diverse groups of animals that live in the Mediterranean region, including marine and terrestrial species. The Mediterranean Sea is the habitat of marine animals, such as the monk seal, pilot whale, green turtle and approximately 900 species of fish. The Mediterranean Basin is also home to a very large number of different animals, including the Iberian lynx, Spanish imperial eagle, meadow viper, northern bald ibis and Ibiza wall lizard.
Some other marine animals found in Mediterranean Basin are the shortfin mako and the bluefin tuna. The Mediterranean Basin is also the habitat of 500 bird and 220 mammal species.
The Mediterranean Sea borders the three continents of Africa, Europe and Asia. The Mediterranean Basin includes different types of habitats, including forest and mountainous regions.
