Several animals feast on snakes, most notably the mongoose. Books and videos have popularized the agility and defenses of the mongoose against the venomous cobra. A roadrunner uses its long beak to nab snakes, especially rattlesnakes, and then smashes them against the ground before dining.
Other animals that eat snakes use strength and size to catch their meals. Bears swat snakes with their claws. Wild boars and raccoons use their aggression to overwhelm their prey. Coyotes, foxes and other large cats eat snakes, as well. Some large birds also swoop down and grasp snakes with their claws or beaks. Snake species are also known to feed on each other.
