Fifth-dimension physics focuses on a theoretical fifth dimension beyond the four perceived dimensions of width, depth, height and time. Researchers have a variety of postulates about this dimension, including the idea that it is the space-time fabric.
The fifth dimension, if it exists, is probably only observable on a quantum level. Mathematicians and quantum physicists use the fifth dimension theory to explain why certain subatomic particle forces, such as gravity, are relatively weak; they believe those energies are expressed in a dimension we cannot perceive. Fifth-dimension physics may explain observed phenomena such as quantum entanglement, the particle-wave theory and apparent subatomic chaos. Physicists also believe that fifth-dimension studies may lead to methods for teleportation and faster-than-light travel.
