There are registries that include approved cockapoo breeders in the United States as well as in Great Britain. Both the American Cockapoo Club and the Cockapoo ClubGB have specific requirements for breeder approval. It is possible to check with a local Humane Society and to visit the breeder in person.
Lists of approved cockapoo breeders are available on both the ACC and CCGB websites. The ACC site categorizes approved breeders by state. Both sites provide codes of ethics and the health standards that breeders must follow for approval. Reputable breeders document the lineage of their dogs and provide health records.
It is also a good idea to check out breeders with the local Humane Society and with local veterinarians. If possible, a potential buyer should visit the breeder, observe dogs and the environment, and ask specific questions about the breed and the individual dog.
