The best way to remove a tick from a dog is by using tweezers or a tick remover, which can be found at pet supply stores. It's a good idea to store the tick in case the pet shows signs of Lyme disease or another tick-borne illness.
If using tweezers, grab the tick as near to the dog's skin as possible, and pull outward in a straight motion. If using a tick remover, press the remover against the dog's skin, and slide the remover under the tick until it is caught in the remover notch. The tick should detach from the dog and remain in the bowl of the remover.
Ensure all of the tick has been removed, and keep it in a sealed storage container. If a dog begins showing symptoms of Lyme disease or another tick-borne illness, take it to a veterinarian.
