Vivitonin is a drug usually prescribed to improve lethargy and overall health in older dogs. Tablets are typically produced as either 50 milligrams or 100 milligrams and contains propentofylline, a derivative of the drug xanthine.
Basically, Vivitonin works to increase the blood flow of the heart, skeletal muscle and the brain, so it often helps the dog to be more active. It is also thought to improve cardiac arrhythmia and improve heart functioning by reducing the cardiac load. It serves as a bronchodilator and also helps with breathing issues.
The drug is currently not available for sale in North America, but is available in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and certain other countries. It is sold as Karsivan in a number of European countries.
