Winter, a dolphin resident at the Clearwater Marine Acquarium in Clearwater, Florida, is a bottlenose dolphin. She was found in a crab trap in December 2005, just a few months after she was born, resulting in the partial loss of her tail.
Bottlenose dolphins are the most common members of the oceanic dolphin family, Delphinidae. They live in warm and oceanic seas worldwide, and they are common attractions at aquariums and marine parks. Winter swims via the use of a prosthetic tail, and her story has led to the creation of a book entitled "Dolphin Tale," as well as a film by the same name.
