A gator pit bull is a type of pit bull terrier said to have come from a certain bloodline that was believed to be associated with fighting dogs. The first gator pit bull dogs were not considered to be any larger or more distinctive than other pit bulls, such as the American pit bull terrier or the Staffordshire bull terrier. In addition, the traits of size and strength attributed to gator pit bulls are not believed to be genuine or noticeable.
Despite being associated with illegal dog fighting, many formal dog breeds considered to be types of pit bulls make fine pets and do not display unnatural aggression or strength. Regardless of any informal naming procedures, all types of pit bulls have the potential to be excellent, loving pets if cared for correctly.
