The Turkish Van is a rare and ancient cat breed that originated in southwest and central Asia, only arriving in the United States in 1982. Turkish Vans are not readily available for export and therefore are still rare outside of the areas in which they originated.
Turkish Vans are large cats. They are semi-long haired and known for their unique coloring. The breed standard calls for a white cat with markings present only on the tail and head. The coat of a Turkish Van lacks an undercoat and is water resistant. These cats are one of the few breeds that enjoys swimming.
