A Tamaskan rescue is an organization dedicated to placing Tamaskan breed dogs with new homes after they have been abandoned or given away by their owners. Tamaskans are a rare breed of dog and resemble feral sled dogs or wolf hybrids.
The Tamaskan is derived from American sled dog breeds and the German Shepherd. They originated in Finland, although their original breeding stock comes from several different nations. They were deliberately bred to resemble wolves. In fact, breeders claim that "Tamaska" means "wolf" in a Native American language, although as over 250 indigenous languages exist in the United States alone, the actual origin of the word is extremely vague. Rescue organizations for this breed are supported by the Tamaskan Club of America, the official registration body for the American Tamaskan.
