Dogs can usually get all the nutrition they need from a well-balanced commercial dog food, although some owners and breeders prefer to make their own dog food. A veterinarian can provide advice as to any special nutritional needs a dog may have based on its breed, sex, size and activity level.
Small amounts of many human foods are fine as occasional treats, but some human foods are potentially deadly to dogs. Dogs should never be given moldy or spoiled foods. Other foods that are unsafe for dogs include avocados, chocolate, garlic, grapes and raisins, macadamia nuts, onions or onion powder, yeast dough, and foods sweetened with xylitol. Also, dogs should not be allowed to drink alcohol or coffee.Learn more about Dogs
