The snowshoe is a breed of cat developed from the Siamese and the American shorthair. A snowshoe cat has the basic Siamese point color pattern, embellished with four white feet and a white V marking on the face. The International Cat Association accepted the snowshoe as a breed in 1994.
The snowshoe breed was first developed in the 1960s from a litter of Siamese cats that were born with white feet. American shorthairs with the tuxedo color pattern were introduced into the breed to develop the white facial markings and to moderate the Siamese influence on the body shape and personality.
