Measuring in at less than 3 inches, the bee hummingbird is the smallest bird in the world. The bill and tail alone account for more than half this length, and the bird weighs just 0.056 ounce.

Found only on the mainland of Cuba and the neighboring Isla de la Juventud, the bee hummingbird is able to beat its wings 80 times per second in a figure-eight pattern, allowing it to hover and move with amazing agility. The energetic bird prefers to feed on nectar from a variety of plants and will also eat small insects, ingesting up to half its body mass each day.
