Shiba Inus are small dogs and typically stand 13.5 to 16.5 inches tall at the withers, according to the American Kennel Club. All Shibas have firm facial features with triangular, deep-set eyes, wide set ears and round muzzles. They also have a stocky or sturdy body type.
Shiba females are shorter than males. Recognized colors for the breed include black and tan, cream, red and red sesame. Shiba Inu puppies look similar to their parents like most purebred puppies do, with a few differences. Puppies are smaller than their parents and tend to have exaggerated proportions, such as large heads and feet.
