Some large animal advocate organizations, such as the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society, Animal Foundation and Maddie's Fund, work with local animal shelters and rescue groups to organize animal adoption events that offer free dog adoptions. The Wisconsin Humane Society also organizes fee-waived adoption during specific months or seasons.
PAWS arranges periodic adoption special events where the organization waives fees or reduced adoption fees for some pets. Details regarding the waived fees are available on PAWS' Available Pets page, under the adoptable pet's profile.
The Animal Foundation often collaborates with shelters and other organizations to organize a free adoption event. The event usually lasts for a couple of days or more. In 2015, for example, the foundation organizes a Black Friday Weekend Special where adoption fees are waived for all pets.
Maddie's Fund, a nonprofit private organization, also arranges one of the biggest pet adoption events in the United States. Since its launch in 1994, hundreds of local shelters across the country, including shelters managed by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Humane Society and the Animal Alliance in New York, take part in the two-day event every year. Maddie's Fund also offers grants to no-kill rescue groups and shelters in the country.
The Wisconsin Humane Society is one of the local Humane Society chapters to start a fee-waived adoption events. In 2015, only the animals transferred from the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission to WHS's shelter are available for free adoption.
