A medium-sized domestic cat, the Serengeti is a mix of several domestic breeds, including the Oriental Shorthair and Bengal. Created by Karen Sausman in 1994, the Serengeti is considered a hybrid breed and possesses an exotic look. Common coat colors include ebony and silver, ebony and smoke and solid black.
Although it is bred from only domestic breeds, the Serengeti was intentionally created to resemble a wild hybrid breed. Sausman, who is opposed to purchasing and keeping wild animals, wanted to give people who were looking for a wild cat a domestic alternative. Cat Breeds Junction describes the breed as outgoing, confident and companionable.
