Q:

How do you search for American Kennel Club dog breeders online?

A:

Quick Answer

The American Kennel Club doesn't recommend or endorse any specific breeders, as of June 2015. It does provide links to AKC Parent Clubs, which have breeder listings, on AKC.org. The site also has a breed finder tool, which you can use to find purebred puppies of a specific breed.

From the AKC.org home page, place the cursor over Breeds. On the drop-down menu that appears, click on Breeder Referral Search under the Find A Dog heading. Choose a breed, and click on the link for that breed's AKC parent club. Select the breeder list on the parent club site.

To use the breed finder tool, click on Find A Puppy underneath the Find A Dog heading. Select a breed, enter your zip code and set a search radius. Check the box to accept the terms of use, and click on Find Puppies.

Results include the breeder's name, location, the number of male and female puppies available, and the puppies' date of birth. Click on the breeder's name to view contact information, sale price for the puppies and litter information. Click on See Breeder Profile to view other information about the breeder, including what clubs he's part of, his sale policies, the information he provides to the buyer and the AKC events where his dogs compete.
