It is safe for dogs to eat washed strawberries in moderation. Strawberries provide fiber, magnesium, iodine, folic acid, omega-3 fatty acids and potassium, as well as vitamins B-1, B-6, C and K.
The sugar content in strawberries can cause stomach upset in dogs who consume too many of the tasty treats. Strawberries are also exposed to fertilizers and pesticides that can be toxic to dogs, so the fruit must be washed well prior to being offered to dogs.
Other fruits that are safe for canine consumption include blueberries, bananas, figs, oranges, lemons, pears and dates. Apples, peaches, plums and pears are safe as well, as long as the seeds and pits are removed. Fruits should comprise no more than 10 percent of a dog's daily diet.
