A cattery dedicated to ragdoll cats controls breeding so that the most desirous traits are consistently present in each litter; cats with these static characteristics have a pedigree. Ragdoll catteries breed large, easy-going, semi-long-haired, affectionate and blue-eyed cats.
A reputable cattery must meet the minimum standards set by The Cat Fanciers' Association, such as sufficient space for each animal, adequate food supplies and a clean facility. The cattery must also have the ability to provide health care for each animal, such as shots, and spaying or neutering. However, the term cattery also applies to facilities that only house and care for cats that require boarding, have health issues or are placed there in cases of animal cruelty.
