As of 2015, Albuquerque Alpacas, Que Sera Alpacas, Windrush Alpacas and Blue Mesa Alpacas are major alpaca breeders in New Mexico. All the ranches specialize in pet- and show-quality alpacas from valued bloodlines, such as Hemingway, Snowmass, Accoyo, Presidio and Caligula.
Albuquerque Alpacas is located in the North Valley and breeds Huacaya alpacas. Husband-and-wife team Skip and Stacie Chavez are the owners, and Stacie is the current president of the New Mexico Alpaca Breeders. The ranch offers stud breeding, on-site tours and animal training. The ranch also hosts a store with alpaca products, such as yarn and apparel, and studio classes that teach people to work with alpaca wool materials.
Que Sera Alpacas is located near the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and also breeds Huacaya alpacas. In addition to on-site breeding, the ranch offers off-site services for clients within range and rents visiting studs to out-of-state clients during the winter. Blue Mesa Alpacas raises Huacayas and Suris, and offers mentoring services to help beginners establish ranching businesses and understand proper alpaca care. The ranch also raises horses and operates an alpaca products store.
The co-owners of Windrush Alpacas include a former New Mexico Alpaca Breeders president and a former TxOLAN Alpaca Association president. The ranch offers a store and open farm days for public tours. Boarding and shearing services are also available.
