In spite of their ability to speak, pocket parrots are not considered to be noisy birds. They are unable to scream and rarely squawk, making them good pets for apartment dwellers.
Parrotlets are aggressive birds, and they are prone to attack other birds of both a smaller and larger sizes. It is best to house them in cages without other types of birds to prevent aggressive behavior. The cage must be large enough to allow the parrotlet to extend his wings fully and should include a swing and toys.
Most parrotlets enjoy a varied diet. Seeds, pellets, fruits and vegetables give their feathers a healthy sheen. Fresh fruits and vegetables should be cut into tiny pieces, making it easier for the birds to consume them.
