Many dog rescue groups in Houston take in abandoned dogs regardless of breed. Some, like the Guardian Pit Bull Rescue, do rescue pit bulls specifically. They rescue pit bulls on the streets of Houston and also inform the public about the situation of pit bulls in local animal shelters.
The Houston Humane Society is another animal rescue organization in Houston. Its website has a list of dogs up for adoption that a hopeful pit bull owner can search for and find with ease. Because most animal rescue groups are operated by nonprofit organizations, they rely on donations and adoption fees for the management of the rescue shelter. The HHS also offers an adoption program, which is comprised of spay/neuter surgery, general health exam, vaccinations, deworming, grooming and a pet adoption kit.
