Dolly was born July 5, 1996, in Scotland after 276 unsuccessful attempts at cloning a sheep. Dolly was cloned from a 6-year-old ewe, and the famous sheep gave birth to six lambs over her lifetime. Upon her death, Dolly was stuffed and put on display at the Royal Museum of Scotland.
Shrek lived in New Zealand and had 60 pounds of fleece removed after going six years without being sheared. The rogue sheep escaped notice every spring because it lived in a cave. Shrek was completely sheared in 30 minutes on live television, and the proceeds from the sale of his fleece went to children's charities.
Lucky was the world's oldest sheep when she died in Australia in 2009 at 23. She passed away during a brutal Australian heat wave. Twiggy, a black-faced ewe, died just short of her 26th birthday in 2012 after falling from a cliff on Great Britain's Western Isles. Twiggy's owner didn't register the animal's vital statistics with Guinness World Records, therefore Twiggy's age is not an official record.Learn more about Barnyard Mammals
