Dr. Michael Fox's homemade dog food and Susan Thixton and Dr. Cathy Alinovi's chicken noodleroni dog food are two good natural dog food recipes. Dr. Fox's recipe includes raw meat, brown rice, brewer's yeast and a mix of fresh vegetables and fruit. Cod liver oil and finely ground eggshells enrich the noodleroni recipe, which includes cooked chicken and whole wheat pasta.
To make Dr. Fox's recipe, combine 1 pound of lean raw meat and 2 cups of uncooked whole-grain brown rice with 1 tablespoon each of vegetable oil and organic butter. Add 1 tablespoon each of wheat germ, apple cider vinegar, brewer's yeast and calcium citrate. Cover the ingredients with water, and simmer until cooked, adding more water if necessary. When hot, add a cup of mixed fresh vegetables, such as carrots, broccoli or yams. Add a cup of fresh fruit, such as blueberries or chopped apples, and then mold into patties to serve.
The chicken noodleroni dog food recipe serves one 30-pound dog two meals for one day. Combine 1/2 cup of cooked chicken and 2 tablespoons of cooked chicken liver with 3/4 cup cooked tomatoes, 3/4 cup peas and 1 cup whole wheat pasta. Add 1/2 cup of broth, 2 tablespoons of cod liver oil and 1/4 teaspoon finely ground eggshell before serving. Alternatively, use 400 milligrams calcium in place of the eggshell.
