A baby anteater is called a pup, and it spends its first year riding on its mother's back. The baby's fur nearly matches the colors of the mother's, hiding it from potential predators.
Anteaters are toothless animals that are closely related to sloths and armadillos. There are three different species of anteater: giant, silky and northern. They are native to the rain forest regions of central and south America. Female anteaters gestate for more than six months, and she raises the baby by herself for up to two years. Anteaters are known to live 15 years in the wild and 25 years in captivity.
