Male standard poodles tend to weigh between 45 and 70 pounds, according to the Dog Breed Info Center. The weight of female standard poodles typically ranges between 45 and 60 pounds.

The Dog Breed Info Center describes a standard poodle as a medium-to-large dog with a square appearance. These poodles often have a height of 15 inches or more. They must be at least 15 inches high to compete in the AKC show ring as standard poodles. The personality of a standard poodle is generally cheerful, good-natured and easier to train than most breeds. They have a life expectancy of 12 to 15 years, but they are subject to many genetic illnesses, such as allergies, skin problems, runny eyes, cataracts, hip dysplasia, ear infections and Von Willebrand's disease.
