How Much Should I Feed My Chihuahua?

An adult Chihuahua that weighs 5 to 8 pounds should eat 1/2 cup of high-quality dry food twice a day. If the food is not consumed within 15 to 30 minutes, remove it until the next scheduled feeding time.

Scheduled feeding discourages fussy eating habits. When dogs are fed table scraps, or their food is left available indefinitely, they are not hungry at mealtimes and nutrition suffers. Health issues, such as rotting teeth and obesity, are among the health issues faced by a Chihuahua that is offered processed human foods. Chihuahuas should never consume bacon, ham, human milk products, chocolates, potatoes, onions or grapes.
