Japanese Chin puppies have a wide variety of costs, starting at a few hundred dollars going up into the thousands, as seen on the Puppyfinder website in July 2015. Adult Japanese Chin dogs typically weigh 4 to 7 lbs. and are 8 to 11 inches in height. They come in either black and white, red and white, or black, tan and white color combinations.
Japanese Chin dogs originated in Asia, where only the Japanese Imperial family was allowed to own them. They became more globally known and sought after a breeding pair was gifted to Queen Victoria in the 1850s. In 1964, they became one of Japan's official national symbols. Japanese Chins were originally called the Japanese Spaniel, but AKC changed the name in 1977.
