How Much Does the Average Mountain Lion Weigh?

Adult male mountain lions usually weigh between 110 and 180 pounds, while females typically weigh between 80 and 130 pounds. In rare cases, a mountain lion may exceed 200 pounds. The mountain lion is an adaptable predator and ranges from Canada to South America.

Although a large cat, the mountain lion is more closely related to the domestic cat than it is to members of Pantherinae, such as lions, tigers and cheetahs. The mountain lion's prey includes a wide range of ungulates in addition to livestock and even smaller animals such as insects and rodents. It utilizes stalking and ambushing tactics during hunting. Mountain lions often avoid confrontation between other apex predators, such as gray wolves, grizzly bears and jaguars.
