Mountain lions are carnivores that enjoy hunting and eating deer, but they will also kill other animals like raccoons and coyotes. Once common in almost all areas of the United States, these large cats have a dwindling population due to excessive hunting by both hunters and farmers who try to keep the lions from eating their livestock.
Mountain lions are vicious hunters, stalking prey for hours before making a fatal leap. A mountain lion will aim for the back of the neck on its prey, attempting to take it down with one bite. Depending on the size of its prey, a mountain lion may hide the carcass and feed off of it for several days.
