The miniature pinscher is a toy dog breed resembling a miniature Doberman pinscher. It is known as the "King of the Toys" for its alert, fearless demeanor and unique high-stepping gait.
Miniature pinschers originated from crosses between German pinschers, dachshunds and Italian greyhounds. The breed's similarity to the Doberman is due to shared ancestry from the German pinscher. Miniature pinschers were originally developed as ratters, but are usually bred as companion dogs. They also make good watch dogs and excel in obedience and agility competitions. They are energetic, active, assertive and intelligent, but are not recommended for beginning dog owners, as they have independent natures and are prone to escapes.
