The miniature Golden Retriever is a breed being developed from crosses between Golden Retrievers, Cocker Spaniels and Poodles. The goal is to develop a smaller version of the Golden Retriever with the same conformation, temperament and trainability as the full-sized breed but without the associated health problems.
The miniature Golden Retriever is not yet recognized by the American Kennel Club and does not have a nationally recognized breed club. There are a number of breeders working on developing dogs of this type through multi-generation crosses. Unscrupulous breeders and pet shops selling "miniature Golden Retrievers" are usually selling either smaller than average Golden Retrievers or Golden Retriever/Cocker Spaniel crosses.
