A Maltipoo puppy is a puppy that is a cross between a Maltese and a poodle. The poodle parent is usually either toy or miniature due to the small size of Maltese dogs.
As Maltipoos are not a breed in the traditional sense, the American Kennel Club does not recognize them as one. However, breeders and owners sometimes refer to them as a hybrid or designer breed. Although some Maltipoos are the offspring of two Maltipoo parents, most are first-generation crosses between a Maltese and a poodle. This form of breeding can cause a significant amount of variation in hereditary traits such as coat, color and personality, because mixed genes can express unpredictably. However, if raised and trained properly, most Maltipoos have fluffy coats and friendly personalities.
