How Long Do House Spiders Live?
The lifespan of a house spider is typically limited to only about a year. In ideal conditions house spiders have been known to live more than a year. Females live longer than males.
House spiders mate in the fall and are born in the spring. They grow to become adults over the course of a year. Male spiders typically die in the winter after protecting their mate in the previous fall, while females overwinter with their young. Females don't usually survive until the next spring, although it is not unheard of. In captivity some spider species have been known to live for decades.
