The pregnancy time for a cat lasts for an average of 69 days with anywhere between 63 and 69 days being normal. Some cats like Siamese cats, may have longer gestation periods of up to 71 days.
Kittens that are born before Day 60 of a pregnancy are often immature and might have trouble surviving. Cats don’t tend to show any signs of pregnancy in the first few weeks besides becoming slightly larger. It’s possible to detect signs of pregnancy with an abdominal ultrasound as early as Day 15. Cats can actually suffer from morning sickness just like people. This can happen during the third week or so of pregnancy. It should last for only a few days. A pregnant cat might become uninterested in food during this time. This happens because the growing kitten pushes up against the cat’s stomach making them less hungry. If it lasts for more than a few days, it’s a good idea for the owner to take the cat into the veterinarian. There’s something called the Witness Pregnancy Detection kit that can show if a cat is pregnant after 30 days. Other signs include a cat’s nipples becoming large and pink after 35 days of pregnancy. The cats belly also becomes increasingly more obvious.
