How Long Can a Snake Live Without Food?

While the amount of time a snake can survive without food depends on its species, Live Science explains that wild snakes often go months at a time without eating. Records exist of reticulated and ball pythons fasting for over 22 months before going back to eating regularly, according to Pawnation.

A study at the University of Arkansas observed significantly low metabolic rates in 62 snakes that had been without food for six months. Even though the snakes had burned up several of their selected fat stores and lowered their metabolic rates to avoid starvation, they had continued to grow and thrive.
