According to Ohio state law, anyone looking to own a Capuchin monkey in Ohio must apply for a permit with the Ohio Department of Agriculture, explains Born Free USA. The owner must meet stringent habitat requirements, pay a fee and take out an insurance policy against damage.
Would-be Capuchin owners must provide proof of at least two years of experience handling Capuchin monkeys at the time of registration as well as proof of financial security and a plan to retrieve the animal should it escape, notes Born Free USA. The monkey must also be implanted with a microchip to complete the registration process.
