What Kind of Milk Can Puppies Drink?

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), there is no substitute for the nutrients provided by a mother dog's milk. However, in cases where the puppy is not able to nurse from its mother, commercial canine milk replacements are the only option.

The ASPCA explains that puppies must be fed milk replacement every few hours through a small syringe for several weeks. The Dog Food Advisor warns that puppies old enough to be weaned should not consume milk products at all as most dogs are lactose-intolerant and lack the enzymes to digest dairy products properly after infancy.
