Spuds MacKenzie was a bull terrier. The dog who starred in the Bud Light commercials as Spuds MacKenzie was actually a female dog whose real name was Honey Tree Evil Eye, or "Evie" for short.
Spuds MacKenzie served as a canine mascot in Bud Light commercials during the 1980s. She was usually depicted as a male dog, often surrounded by scantily clad women and admiring men. The company reserved hotel rooms for the dog and even had the animal participate in interviews. Contrary to the bull terrier's reputation for aggression, Spuds MacKenzie was considered affectionate and calm. The Spuds MacKenzie campaign become extremely popular and drove sales of Bud Light up by 20 percent, states Mental Floss.
