Do Jack Russell Terriers Shed?
Last Updated Apr 6, 2020 7:09:12 AM ET

Jack Russell dogs shed about as much as any other short-hair dog. They shed continuously throughout the year and not just during certain seasons. The shedding is not excessive, but it is enough to warrant proper care.
Keeping good care of the Jack Russell's coat is key to managing the shedding. Good coat care starts with shampooing. Use a quality shampoo with oatmeal for sensitive skin, and consider a dry shampoo for use between baths. Brush the dog with a bristle brush every day to keep down shedding. Trim longer hair in the abdomen, paw and rump area. For dogs that most often remain indoors and don't get knots in their hair, For Dummies advises that brushing once a week is sufficient.
