Many pet owners are worried about whether or not using an invisible fence is humane to their dog, but using an invisible fence is not considered humane according to the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals because the shock collar can lead to physical injuries and psychological stress. The invisible fence is also a great way to confine dogs while allowing dog thieves to enter the yard.
The invisible fence does not allow the dog to run away from the intruder. Other dogs may run outside of the confines of the invisible fence as fast as possible because they may associate the yard with the shock from the fence. This association may also cause dogs who have run beyond the fence to avoid coming home because they do not want to be shocked again. Then, there are other dogs who will experience extreme anxiety and psychological stress over the invisible fence and shock collar.
