There is no horse meat in dog food manufactured in the United States. The practice of slaughtering horses for human consumption or for use in pet foods has been banned in the United States.
Despite the fact that horse meat is consumed around the world, in countries such as Japan and Mexico, the United States banned the practice as Americans no longer eat horse meat. At one time, it was an acceptable food source, but as horses are now considered pets by many people, the practice has been abandoned. Dog owners find the use of horse meat in their pet food "distasteful", and there is no market for the use of the meat in any domestic pet foods today.
