King penguins live in the sub-Antarctic region as well as the Prince Edward Islands, the Falkland Islands, Australia, New Zealand and southern Georgia. The king penguin is large in size, second only to the Emperor penguin. It can be up to 35 pounds and 3 feet tall.
King penguins are carnivores and enjoy eating small fish, krill, squid and crustaceans. They will dive deep to find a food source, sometimes over 900 feet. Female king penguins are able to reproduce each year, laying just one egg at a time, however it is common for them not to be successful except two out of three years.
