Fetch and hide and seek are two safe and enjoyable games that dog owners can play with their dogs. A dog has to understand basic obedience commands such as stay, sit, come, heel and down to be able to play.
Fetch is a well-known sport that is also one of the easiest and enjoyable for both human and dog. The only necessary equipment is a toy, stick or ball. The game teaches both the dog and owner teamwork while giving them a workout. The proper way to play fetch is always to use the same toy for the dog to fetch and have the dog place the toy at the owner’s feet upon return. A dog needs to understand the commands of “drop it” and “give it” to be able to fully participate in fetch.
Hide and seek can be played both indoors and outdoors; this game provides many opportunities to give treats and affection to the dog. The game begins with the dog being put in the “sit” or “stay” position while the human hides in a different room. The human then calls the dog and waits for the dog to find him, greeting him with enthusiastic pats, rubs and treats.
