What Is a Fox's Niche?

The fox is a nocturnal omnivorous mammal that feeds on small animals, such as rodents or birds, as well as fruit, vegetables, fish, garbage, and pet food if humans are nearby. Foxes are found in many environments, from mountains to deserts and farms.

Foxes are known for their resourcefulness, and this allows them to adapt to many different types of environments. There are 12 species of true foxes, and they can be found throughout the northern hemisphere, from the fennec fox, whose short fur is adapted to desert areas, to the arctic fox, whose bushy fur is ideal for colder environments.
