Floating turtle traps are rectangular cages constructed of PVC pipes and wire netting. They float in a pond or lake with the pipes above the water's surface. The turtles are enticed onto the pipes to bask in the sun, but they fall into the net and can't climb back out.
Floating turtle traps are commonly used to capture turtles for the purpose of relocating them to different areas. Some turtles eat fish food and become hooked on bait, interfering with fishing. Floating turtle traps placed along the shore line can be a very effective solution to this problem. They are very inexpensive to make and can be made more enticing by adding fish food to the cage.
