Where Do Fisher Cats Live?

According to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, the range of fisher cats, or fishers, extends across North America from Southeast Alaska to the Hudson Bay and into the northern U.S. They are also found in Wyoming's Rocky Mountains and California's Sierra Nevada mountains.

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department states that fisher cats live in forests and forest wetlands. They build dens in hollow logs and trees, tree roots, rocky areas and brush piles. They also take over unoccupied porcupine dens. The Connecticut DEEP indicates that some fishers find shelter in old tree nests of squirrels or large birds. Others rest deep in the branches and needles of conifer trees.
