Full Answer

Expert breeders recommend letting all female dogs go through at least one heat before attempting breeding. Female pit bulls have more restrictions than other dogs. Due to their body shape, female pit bulls cannot safely carry a pregnancy to term until they are 2 years old and have reached their adult size. Pit bulls and other bully breeds have a higher rate of breeding complications compared to other dog breeds. Waiting until the female pit bull is fully grown greatly reduces this risk but does not eliminate it entirely.
