What Is a Female Cat Called?

Female cats are typically referred to as “Molly” or “Queen.” The term “Queen” is more suitable for cats that are nursing or pregnant, as it portrays more of a motherly tone.

If the specific cat in mention is currently raising kittens or is a soon-to-be mother, the term “Queen” would be an acceptable title, but female cats that aren’t nursing or pregnant are typically referred to as a “Molly,” which connotes less of a motherly feel. Additionally, the lesser-known term “Dam” is reserved exclusively for rare or purebred female felines during the act of recording or maintaining ancestral records for cat breeding.
