How Fast Do Greyhounds Run?

Greyhounds can run up to 45 miles per hour for very short periods. They are the fastest dogs in existence and are commonly used for racing and for coursing small game, such as hares.

Greyhounds are sight hounds, meaning that they pursue their prey by sight rather than scent. They were originally bred for speed and endurance in order to be able to catch fast animals, such as deer and hares. Dogs of a similar type can be seen in Egyptian tomb carvings from nearly 4,000 years ago. They have been used for hunting for millennia and have commonly been associated with royalty and nobility.
